Letter from the Leadership Team

The mission of our organization is to facilitate the success of Black women in the academy. We believe doing so requires networking, facilitation of individual and collaborative scholarship, and promoting professional development in various ways.

Our membership is affiliated with more than 30 colleges and universities around the United States, Kenya, and Great Britain. Our membership is multi-disciplinary and active in professional organizations like the American Educational Research Association, the Association of Black Psychologists, the Comparative International Education Society, and the National Black Graduate Student Association, Association for the Study of Higher Education, the American Association of Suicidologist, the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy, and the American Bar Association.

To further the goals of our membership, we are guest editing a special issue of Journal of Thought to highlight the scholarship produced by both Sisters and Brothers of the Academy (scheduled for spring, 2007). We are currently planning a symposium - The Research Boot Camp - designed to develop the research of our student members; develop the manuscripts of faculty for submission to peer-reviewed journals; and, engage more seasoned faculty in reading groups designed to further their on-going writing activities. The Research Boot Camp will take place in Summer 2007 at our national headquarters - Auburn University.

We encourage you to explore our website. If you find that your professional goals are consistent with those of our organization, we encourage you to contact us to explore the ways in which an affiliation with our organization might benefit you.
